Describe:
A black and white shot of a young man with bleached hair skateboarding down a street. He is caught mis trick skateboarding along a stucco wall of a building coming at us. Clad in skull patterned pants and a creme sweatshirt this photo was shot on a clear day with no clouds in the sky. Reflection: This Photo drew my attention because of its high intensity of action and makes me wonder about the happiness him and the photographer will have as soon as he lands the clearly amazing trick. It also indicates the subtle casualty of human excellence. The subject of the photo is not formally dressed or in front of an audience but on a standard unknown street in everyday clothes executing an amazing athletic move that required skill and practice. It inspires the viewer to remember to observe the extraordinary in the everyday. Formal Elements: This shot encompasses many technical elements. Firstly it is clearly a stop action shot with a very high shutter speed in order to allow for the skateboarder to remain suspended in air. This shot also is a very minimalist piece with the background a monotone white due to skillful use of over exposure that allows for the subject to pop out agains everything else. There is also an obvious vertical line from the edge of the building on the left hand side of the photo. The inclusion of this into the shot gives it more movement and instability that without further creating anticipation and activity in an already action filled shot. |
