The first Digital Camera was created in 1975 by Steven Sasson a new Employee of Kodak who was given the job of investigating the uses of Charged Coupled Devices (CCD). What a CCD does is take in light and turn it into electric pulses, unfortunately these pulses do not last a very long time this is where Sasson came in. Sasson realized that these short pulses could be converted into code that a computer could store and then use to reproduce the image. Unfortunately for Sasson Kodak was not so fond of his new finding because they had a strong hold on the photo industry and we =re no t=ready to embrace digital photography. Because of this Kodak eventually filed bankruptcy, but not before making money off the patent they owned on Sasson's invention.
