1. Describe the Photograph:
This photograph was taken on the battle field of Antietam during the American Civil War with Abraham Lincoln standing in the middle as the main subject addressing the camera with one of his war time advisers on each side of him. In the background a canvas tent with a couple trees create a scene for the three to stand in front of for this black and white shot. 2. Reflect/ Interpret the Photograph: This photograph communicates the power of Lincoln especially during his time but also during ours. In this shot Lincoln is clearly the main subject and in a position of power. He stands in the middle of the frame directly beneath the peak of the tent making him appear stronger in comparison to the men around him an aura only aided by his height and top hat. 3. Formal art elements are used in the Photograph: Many formal elements are being utilized within this shot most obviously is the framing of the men by the tent out line in the background. Additionally there is an excellent use of symmetry in the positioning of the three main subjects with both of Lincoln's companions placed somewhat equidistant from him on each side. |
